Can you feel the quiet? The setting of this Fullcut film is what Alentejo is all about: one-floor white houses with blue stripes, plane fields where you can stretch your eyes so far it looks like you see the horizon ahead, and the sunlight sprinkling everything with its golden, warm shades. So, this is the mood you get when you choose to have a wedding in Avis. Peaceful and glowing.
Mário and Liliana chose just that, and what a beautiful wedding it was. The couple’s male friends looked great, all dressed alike, wearing traditional berets, and the whole day was spent outdoors, beneath the olive trees, from the moment the rings were exchanged until dawn. Everybody seems to be a terrific dancer in this crew!
What you see here is a typical ‘monte alentejano’ (Alentejo hill) in Avis, known of its order of chivalry, founded in 1146. It gave its name and coat of arms to the Aviz Dynasty that ruled Portugal between 1385 and 1580. If you are wondering whether there is a castle to visit, yes, of course there is a castle – plus, as usual, it stands on the top of the hill, which makes it an extraordinary viewpoint of the area around it. A lovely scenery for romantic strolls!
