Less than an hour away from Porto’s airport, Guimarães is a city quite cherished by the Portuguese, being considered as the country’s birthplace, back in the 12th century.
The Historic District of Guimarães is exceptionally well-preserved and a very good example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town. Classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, it stands for the specific development of Portuguese architecture from the 15th to 19th century.
That being said, the city is also vibrant, cheerful, young and proud: a very pleasant place. We must tell you also about Monte da Penha (Penha hill), the highest point in Guimarães, covered in green. You can get to the top by car but also by cable car, which is a lot more fun, plus allows you to enjoy the views while going up (or down).
We have only good reasons to suggest you to have your wedding in Guimarães!
